Inter- and intraspecific plant-soil feedbacks of grass species

Plants continuously interact with soil microbiota. These plant-soil feedbacks (PSFs) are considered a driving force in plant community dynamics. However, most PSF information comes from inter-family studies, limited on possible causes. We studied the variation of PSFs between and within grass species identified microbes that associated observed effects. grew monocultures ten cultivars three (Lolium perenne, Poa pratensis, Schedonorus arundinaceus) using two-phase experiment. measured total biomass to determine correlated it sequenced rhizosphere bacteria fungi. In conditioning phase, developed microbial legacies affected performance other feedback phase. detected overall negative interspecific PSFs. While we show L. perenne P. pratensis increased their respectively conspecific heterospecific soils, S. arundinaceus was not strongly by previous species.
